Hey, Soul Sister

I saw the light...

...at the end of the tunnel.

They were right, it WAS a Train!

Yep, more music...but on a happy note!

Yesterday morning it crossed my mind...what would have been Julie and Ronnie's 36th Wedding Anniversary approaching...no idea for a posting. And, I was determined not to force it. Since I've been listening to my remastered Beatles' albums, I thought it best to simply "Let It Be".

Then, out of the blue...

Decided to go for my afternoon drive...my daily half hour or so of radio music. Julie's station was playing commercials and so I flipped to my standby station. A song was playing that I had never heard before, but quickly caught my ear...something about "soul sister".

My mind flashed back to the Patti LaBelle classic disco hit "Lady Marmalade" that began with "Hey Sister, Go Sister, Soul Sister, Go Sister" and contained the none-too-subtle "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?" The song hit the charts in 1974 and was a favorite of two young newlyweds, Julie and Ronnie...especially because Julie liked to vamp to the song, and Ronnie certainly didn't try to stop her. Whatever Julie wants...

Ahem...back to the NEW "soul sister".

Totally different...

No ladies of the evening, no obvious references to chocolate-flavored love...just a bouncy little tune with lots of references to the 80's.

In fact, the lyrics website I first visited had a section where readers could write their "interpretation" of the song. Most ignored any racial reference, but one contributor ventured that although "soul sister" might refer to a black girl, that the reference could just as easily be to a "soul mate" of any race, creed, or color.

When in doubt, go to the source!

Taking a chance, I entered "train.com"...which took me to a website about, well, trains...of the choo-choo variety.

Not to be denied, I Googled "music group train" which produced the predicted hundreds of thousands of links. By the descriptions, it was obvious that my desired destination was "trainline.com".

The website had a link for the video of their latest single..."Hey, Soul Sister". When I clicked the link, sure enough...the girl featured in the video was white.

Whatever...

Guess I'll just be satisfied with a "Doublemint Moment"...double the pleasure, double the fun. My "soul sister" was really and truly black AND my soul mate.

So, there!

Here is where I'm supposed to turn this song into a SIGN, once again trying to convince skeptics of the error of their disbelieving ways.

Well, I won't, I won't, I...

...won't!

Oh, the material is there to do so...

Okay, maybe I did "sketch" a sign. But, ya gotta admit, by my normal verbose standard...

Anyway, without further ado, below are the lyrics.

I'd stick around and hum the tune for ya...but, I've got a Train to catch.

Yep, sucker that I am...I'm off to buy the album!

Train
Hey, Soul Sister Lyrics

Hey, hey hey

Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
I knew I wouldn't forget you, and so I went and let you blow my mind
Your sweet moonbeam, the smell of you in every single dream I dream
I knew when we collided, you're the one I have decided who's one of my kind

Hey soul sister, ain't the Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...
Tonight

Hey, hey hey

Just in time, I'm so glad you have a one-track mind like me
You gave my life direction, a game show love connection we can't deny
I'm so obsessed, my heart is bound to beat right out my untrimmed chest
I believe in you, like a virgin, you're Madonna,
And I'm always gonna wanna blow your mind

Hey soul sister, ain't the Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...
Tonight

The way you can cut a rug, watching you's the only drug I need
You're so gangsta, I'm so thug, you're the only one I'm dreaming of
You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be
I want the world to see you be with me

Hey soul sister, ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio, stereo,
The way you move ain't fair, you know!
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do tonight,
Hey soul sister, I don't want to miss a single thing you do...tonight

Hey, hey hey

Tonight

Hey, hey hey

Tonight
